Chick-fil-A near New Castle to open in June

Delaware's newest Chick-fil-A is expected to open next month on Route 13 near New Castle, according to the franchisee's website.

The fast food restaurant is taking the place of the Dutch Inn between McDonald's and Panda Express. The exterior of the new building appears near completion.

The Chick-fil-A is the first step in a redevelopment of the Dutch Inn property. A Starbucks will be built behind Chick-fil-A and next to McDonald's along Route 273. Land further back from Chick-fil-A is being prepared for a future retail development up to 20,000 square feet in size.

Chick-fil-A is expected to open two new locations in Delaware this year. The second restaurant is under construction at the Prices Corner shopping center. It will take one of two new pad sites replacing the Sears Auto Center adjacent to the new Target.

Chick-fil-A is also preparing a new restaurant in Newark at the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder facility on Ogletown Road.

Plans filed for two Middletown housing developments

Two plans were filed last week with New Castle County for housing developments in Middletown. Both plans were filed by limited liability companies with the address 105 Foulk Rd., the address of Capano Management.

The first plan calls for 199 large single-family homes, 59 small single-family homes, 30 townhouses, 216 multi-family apartment units and 95 age-restricted single-family village lots. The plans also call for a clubhouse and recreation areas.

The development is being proposed along the south side Bethel Church Road and the west side of Choptank Road. It would back up to the Back Creek subdivision and be bordered by the Millwood and Biggs Farm subdivisions.

The second plan calls for 98 large single-family homes, 75 townhouses, 192 multi-family apartments, a clubhouse and recreation areas on the north side of Churchtown Road west of Back Creek Drive.

The plansrequire approval from New Castle County Council.
