Craving something refreshing, sweet, yet healthy while at the beach?

Playa Bowls is offering beachgoers another spot to savor its popular acai bowls – a smoothie-like blend made from a dark purple berry by the same name.

Right in the heart of Dewey Beach’s nightlife scene, the new Playa Bowls location will be in the old T-Shirt shop off the end of popular concert venue Bottle & Cork.

It will be takeout only with hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 a.m to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The new takeout-only Playa Bowls location will be located at the Bottle & Cork in Dewey Beach.

The Dewey Beach location will not play music or serve alcohol, but the Playa Bowls owners said they have no doubt it will benefit from being inside the same building as the lively venue and bar.

The Dewey Beach Planning and Zoning Commission approved Playa Bowls’ plans Tuesday, sending the application over to the town commissioners for final approval. The location plans to open by July Fourth.

Keith Mushinski, part of the ownership at Playa Bowls, said the team has always had its eye on Dewey Beach for a possible location, and it was a “no-brainer” when the opportunity arrived at Bottle and Cork.

The company, which started at the Jersey Shore in 2014, has three other locations in Delaware: at Rehoboth Avenue and Second Street in Rehoboth Beach, off Merimac Avenue in Middletown and on Main Street in Newark.

Adding another beach location fits right in with the company’s vision – one that was initially inspired by visiting surf towns across the country and world.

“Really the beach is what Playa Bowls is all about,” Mushinski said.

Play Bowls offers a variety of bowls, smoothies and juices. Its staples are the acai (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) bowl, which is made from that purplish tropical berry known for being super rich in antioxidants, and the pitaya bowl made from dragon fruit.
