Delaware State Police investigates a fatal crash involving a car and bicyclist

A bicyclist died Saturday after being hit by a minivan Thursday night in Bethany Beach, according to Delaware State Police. 

The police collision reconstruction unit is investigating the fatal crash that happened when a 2005 Toyota Sienna driven by a 50-year-old Red Lion, Pennsylvania, man hit bicyclist Kelly M. Scruggs, 27, of Annapolis.

The driver was traveling south on Coastal Highway in the left lane, approaching Evergreen Road.

Scruggs was traveling westbound across the median of Coastal Highway and proceeded into the southbound lanes, directly into the path of the Toyota.

Scruggs was transported to the Beebe Hospital then taken to the Christiana Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries Saturday.
