A Bridgeville woman lost both her husband and brother in what police say was a murder-suicide incident Thursday night.

Delaware State Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Emily's Pintail Drive, in the Heritage Shores development, at about 10:45 p.m. Dec. 2 for a report of a shooting, according to a Friday news release.

The homeowners, a 71-year-old man and his wife, returned to their residence at about 9:30 that night, police said.

The wife was in a first-floor bathroom when she heard footsteps on the second floor, where her 58-year-old brother lived, immediately followed by a loud bang, according to the release.

She found her husband in the family room with an apparent gunshot wound and ran to a neighbor's house, where police were called, police said. Upon arrival, they found her brother dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in his room.

The motive is not yet known, police said.
