Trick or a treat? Weather forecast says it all depends on when you celebrate Halloween

Don't be scared to trick-or-treat this weekend if your community celebrates Halloween on Sunday – it'll be chilly, but the rains should be behind us like a bad dream.

Communities that celebrate All Hallow's Eve on Friday might get washed out as the forecast calls for the wet stuff. Communities that celebrate on Saturday might get nabbed by rains, depending on how early and where in Delaware they are.

This weekend's highs will range in the 60s across Delaware with New Castle County being slightly chillier and Kent and Sussex counties a bit warmer. The lows will be in the mid- to low 50s on Friday and Saturday with the low dipping to about 48 degrees Sunday.

The annual Brandywine Hundred Fire Company Halloween parade, held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, goes back more than 50 years. The parade starts on Brandywine Boulevard in Bellefonte and ends up at the Brandywine Hundred Fire Company, where there are games, a pumpkin patch and food and drinks for visitors.

The few showers seen Friday morning in northern Delaware will turn into a steady, soaking rain during the afternoon and overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service. The southern portion of the state should expect rain with some possible thunderstorms.

All of Delaware should prepare for an evening of high wind gusts, with the weather service issuing a wind advisory lasting from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday. The weather service is calling for east winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

There's also a coastal flood warning in effect in Kent and Sussex counties from noon until 9 p.m. Friday. That was evident in some of Delaware's beach towns Friday afternoon.

As the weekend moves into Saturday, there is a slight chance of rain across Delaware, with its likelihood to continue into the early afternoon the farther north one is in the state – that means New Castle County might see rain until about 2 p.m.

Sunday is expected to be partly cloudy during the day, with clear skies at night for all the ghouls and ghosts wanting to trick-or-treat.
