Bicyclist seriously injured, airlifted to hospital after Thursday morning collision in Talleyville

A woman riding a bicycle in Talleyville was seriously injured Thursday morning when she was struck by a vehicle.

The collision happened at Shipley and Silverside roads just before 10 a.m.

Police said the bicyclist was stationary in the left-turn lane on the south side of Silverside Road, waiting for the light to turn green to turn east on Silverside Road.

State police investigate after a woman riding a bicycle was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning in Talleyville.

A Lexus sedan was traveling east on Silverside Road and turning onto the south lane of Shipley Road. The car struck the bicyclist and threw her into the roadway, police said.

The woman was transported by helicopter to Christiana Hospital for serious head injuries, police said. She was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Lexus was issued a citation for inattentive driving, police said.
