Camden's only McDonald's will close at the end of the month, but the popular fast-food chain is planning a comeback.

The McDonald's inside the Camden Walmart will close March 31, with the intent to build a modernized stand-alone restaurant later this year, owner Michael Meoli said.

No details have been released about the new location, but plans are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Meoli Cos. now operates 25 McDonald’s in Sussex and Kent counties and on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, with more than 1,000 employees. Of the 25, six restaurants were acquired in the Dover area in November.

Meoli has owned McDonald’s restaurants on the Delmarva Peninsula since 1991.

All crew members and management were notified of the closure and were offered positions at other McDonald’s restaurants owned by the Meoli Cos.

Nearby McDonald's locations include:

  • 1704 East Lebanon Road, Dover.
  • 915 South Dupont Highway, Dover.
  • 1424 Forrest Ave., Dover.
